Sometimes called 'The Gateway to North Wales', the riverside town of Llangollen boasts an impressive mountain backdrop, sitting alongside the boulder-strewn River Dee. Visitors flock to the internationally renowned annual musical Eisteddfod, and throughout the year holidaymakers enjoy exploring the surrounding valley by steam train or canal boat, or trying out the many walking or cycling routes up to Castell Dinas Bran to enjoy the breathtaking views. More walking can be enjoyed along the Offa's Dyke Path, running close to the town, while the mountains and coast of Snowdonia can be reached in an hour by car.
