Troustrie House is a lovingly renovated 200-year-old Georgian farmhouse, retaining many period features and set in a quiet rural location. Open all year, Troustrie offers a peaceful, home-from-home stay, to which guests regularly return. The two south facing bedrooms with idyllic views over open fields towards the Firth of Forth and the Isle of May have spacious luxury en-suite bathrooms, cosy goose down duvets with crisp cotton linen. Rooms have organic teas, coffee, hot chocolate and biscuits and if guests arrive before 6 pm, they are welcomed with a cup of tea and home-made cakes in the exclusive guest lounge with woodburning stove or they can indulge themselves in a pre-booked afternoon tea. There is also a 'Butler's Pantry' with fridge and microwave. Delicious breakfasts are prepared from organic, free-range and locally sourced produce wherever possible. Troustrie also has an ongoing re-wilding project which over the past 17 years has transformed a featureless grass paddock into a low impact wildlife friendly habitat, with native broadleaf trees and hedging where you may see a thriving bird population, brown hare, deer or badger.
Troustrie House is beautifully set in a peaceful rural spot, yet just a mile from historic Crail with its harbourside lobster shack. The Isle of May (NNR) is visible from the bedrooms and daily boat trips leave from nearby Anstruther. Troustrie is well placed for the Fife Coastal Path and the new Fife Pilgrim Way or visit the beautiful East Neuk fishing villages or medieval St Andrews (17 minutes by car), the home of golf and The Old Course, although there are over 40 golf courses within an hour’s drive. There are palaces, castles, distilleries, mountains, historic ships, museums (the V&A) and gardens all within easy reach.
