Although in the city centre, the apartment itself is peaceful and relaxing, in a conservation area, with views across to the church and the hills beyond. A two minute walk takes you down to the River Ness, where you can stroll along to the Ness Islands.Keep a look out for a heron or two, or even an otter if you're lucky! Inverness Castle, and the Viewing Tower are only an easy ten minute stroll away, as are many other attractions, such as the Museum and Art Gallery and St Andrews Cathedral. The apartment is next to Dunbar's hospital, built in 1668 as an almshouse for the poor. Opposite, is the Old High Church, on a site of historical significance since Celtic times. Further along the street there are several restaurants and cafes to suit all tastes. It's worth looking into Leakey's Bookshop just across the road, too. This is one of Scotland's largest second-hand bookshops and is housed in the old Gaelic Church (1793). Hootananny bar is a good place to visit to hear traditional music sessions, as is MacGregor's bar. Both are just a three minute walk away. For other music tastes, there is always a varied programme at Eden Court Theatre and Cinema and The Ironworks close by.
