Hi, my name is Sarah and I am your host at Moorings. I love meeting people and talking to guests both before and during their stay helping them with their stay in any way I can. My husband, Peter's family have owned the house for many years so we know the area really well, just ask if I can help with any of your plans! My hobbies are doing up properties (I hope you like what I have done with Moorings!), walking, particularly with our beautiful black Labrador called Gin, playing tennis and being with the family (we have 3 sons). We wish you a warm welcome and a happy stay in our much loved house
Moorings is a lovely family holiday home with lots of character and warmth built just over 100 years ago. We as a family use the house, so it is very well equipped and we constantly add items to make it a real home from home. The kitchen and dining room is a huge space with a wonderful central island and seating for 12 at the dining table. The rooms leads out to the lovely south facing garden which is fully enclosed and offers a lovely space to relax and enjoy if you dont feel like the 5 minute walk to the beach. We have a BBQ and several seating areas with dining for 12 in the garden. The house is ideal for all parties, great for groups with the open plan living space and great for multi generational families with a downstairs bedroom and shower room. Located on a private road, there is parking for 3 cars outside the house. In terms of location we have easy access to all that town can offer but are tucked away in a peaceful spot at the top of the town steps so it is peaceful and quiet. The house 5 minutes from the beach, the great shops, restaurants and pubs, tennis courts, boating pond, lifeboat station and the wonderful walks both by the sea and across the marshes.
Aldeburgh is pretty as a picture with its lovely ice cream coloured seafront houses and can be walked end to end in about 15 minutes. The town is easy to enjoy as there is so much to do for all ages. There is a really good selection of shops and boutiques offering 'different' clothes you dont always find on the high street. Hilary runs a wonderful vintage shop on the edge of town (look for the dress on a pole as you drive in) definitely worth a look. Snape Maltings is also fab. The area is 'foody' so there are two good deli's, an excellent butchers and you can buy fresh fish from the boat huts on the beach (try the smoked prawns from the smokery they are delicious!). For restaurants and pubs there is a great selection, our favourites are The Lighthouse, run by Sam, good for a special meal and the Regatta, good for fish. A couple of excellent coffee shops, Munchies and the Aldeburgh Market, 2 fish and chip shops, pizza oven in The White Hart pub. Sports - you can hire canoes at Iken, fish off the beach, crab at Orford, play golf and tennis in the town, hire bikes or explore the wonderful walks (we have maps), row on the Mere at Thorpness. Or just relax!
