Porlock is a lovely village set in the heart of Exmoor National Park, surrounded by beautiful countryside and coastline. Puffins is a two-bedroom ground floor apartment set in a very quiet private complex of an old converted tannery building. Completely renovated during 2015, Melody and David have focused on creating a comfortable, creative space, a home from home, where refreshment can be found. Having worked in hospitality, the experience of creative excellence has inspired Melody to make guests stay special. The bathroom, which has been described as spar like, has a double ended bath and a large separate shower and hot water from a pressurised system. Robes and slippers are provided for each guest to enhance the feel of luxury and comfort and to help with relaxation after a day of walking or just enjoying the countryside. The kitchen is hand made in a country style with a large table that can comfortably seat 6. The main bedroom has a super king bed which can be split into two large singles if required, while the second bedroom has a king size bed. The lounge has comfy seating TV and all that is required for a comfortable evening in. TA certificate of Excellence 2017
Melody and David moved to Porlock in 2009. Melody had grown up in the area and as an artist had found her inspiration in the beauty of the Exmoor landscape and coastline. Having established herself as a self publishing artist under the banner of Melody Art, it was time for life to move forward and for husband David to become part of the team bringing his love of photography to the business. Melody and David share their own gallery on the High Street in Porlock where you will find many original paintings, photographs and prints of Melody's paintings. In addition Melody has a large studio opposite Puffins where she paints gives lessons and displays her work. Exmoor has the most amazing light, softer than that found in St Ives, but in our view this works well with the landscape drawing out the subtle tones that you will see and appreciate when you visit. Melody and David have travelled and stayed in many places and it is this experience that has influenced the design and standard that they have applied to Puffins. Their philosophy has been that Puffins should be the place that they would like to find and that a holiday is a time to relax and feel comfortable.
The main feature of this area is Exmoor National Park, it is the smallest of the Parks being set on the coast overlooking the Bristol Channel and the coastline of South Wales. Exmoor has almost endless places to walk and is part of the first few legs of The South West Coast path running from Minehead to Porlock and onto Lynmouth and Ilfracombe. The coastline on Exmoor has the highest sea cliffs in England making it a very dramatic place to explore. Along your walk you will encounter Exmoor Ponies, Red Stag, Highland Cattle and many sheep varieties specific to rugged landscape conditions. During summer you will be treated to a landscape vibrant with purple heather and yellow gorse that covers large areas of the hills that surround us in Porlock. Porlock itself is a working village with shops, restaurants, pubs and coffee shops as well as our own art gallery and many other art and craft related shops. Puffins, although right in the centre of Porlock, enjoys a very quiet setting while being literally a stones throw from the shops and even closer to Miles Tea and Coffee Merchants, the morning air is often enhanced by the aroma of coffee being roasted.
