There are a couple of hotels nearby too that are good for lunch. Meanwhile, the popular towns of Ambleside and Windermere are within easy driving distance if you want a range of shops to buy some gifts to take home or perhaps some local artwork. Both have a good selection of restaurants and bars, should you fancy a night out. There are some excellent country walking trails in the area where you can work up a sweat or simply take your time and enjoy nature. Take the two-mile walk through beautiful open meadows, along Elterwater Lake to Stockghyll Force. Or, stretch those leg muscles on an ascent up the Langdale Pikes or Crinkle Crags. Getting around We recommend arriving at Beatrix Cottage by car. However, once at the cottage you don’t necessarily need to use it until you want to explore the wider Lake District National Park. The cottage has two parking spaces.
