Information about the host

Caer Menai is a grade II listed Georgian/Victorian property with many typical features from those eras. Originally built in 1823 it was a teacher training college before becoming the site of the first county school in 1894. It was converted to a guest house in 1974

We have been at Caer Menai for six years now and as well as having the pleasure of meeting some lovely people we also love our surroundings. Walks from our doorstep along the banks of the Menai or further afield into Snowdonia. Beach combing along the beaches on Anglesey and visiting some of the many National Trust properties within a short drive - Bodnant Gardens being a particular favourite of ours and a place we return to several times a year to witness the changing of the seasons.

Guests come from all parts of the country and indeed the world, but most come to see our World Famous Castle in Caernarfon, built by Edward 1 in the thirteenth century. A guided walk can be taken through the streets of medieval Caernarfon with stories about people, places and history of this very Welsh town. The Snowdonia National Park provides many attractions “Doing” Snowdon the easy way by the train or the hard way via one of the many tracks, Slateworks, Electric Mountain, Forest Parks and Activity Centres are all popular attractions. The coast is spectacular, the island of Anglesey (Ynys Mon) has many fine beaches to visit. Also, Portmeirion an Italianate village built by one man is in easy reach. Bounce Below at Blaenau Ffestiniog and Zip World offer a unique experience and both just a very short drive away.
