Caynham Court is a large, relaxed, family home providing bed and breakfast. We are not a hotel. Caynham Court has been a manor house since 1086. Since then, it has gone through many changes and re-modelling phases. The visible building mostly dates from 1790 with extensions in 1851 but the older house is hidden within the facade. Today it is a large, informal country retreat, ideal for shooting parties, walkers, cyclists and other outdoors enthusiasts. Furniture is practical and un-fussy. We welcome dogs and muddy boots. Rooms vary in size but all have new en-suite shower rooms (added in 2018) and some have a bath too. Decor is eclectic, with big sofas and old taxidermy mingling with newly-commissioned artworks. The gardens and grounds run to almost five acres with lots of footpaths over the old parkland and up to Caynham Camp; an Iron Age fort. We are not a hotel, there is no mini-bar or TV in the room; we offer a house in the country where our guests stay, as if they were visiting friends.
Diggory Hadoke is a writer and specialist in vintage sporting guns. Claire Bosi is the editor of Chef & Restaurant magazine and former owner and manager of Hibiscus, which achieved two Michelin stars in Ludlow and carried them to Mayfair, trading until 2017. Claire and Diggory now live at Caynham Court with three dogs; Vesper and her daughter Vermin (vizslas) and Ratty (terrier), Sooty the cat and Paige the teenager.
Caynham is a small village bordering Ludlow. It is quiet and surrounded by fields and parkland. It has an ancient Norman church and several large houses, as well as an old school and village hall. The Ledwych brook is a famous trout stream that runs alongside the village. Ludlow is two miles away and packed with excellent pubs, bars and restaurants. It has a golf course, horse racing and thriving cricket and rugby clubs. Caynham court is at the end of a private drive and overlooks open park-land, on the South East side of the village. Caynham Camp, an iron age hill-top fort, is a ten minute walk, providing great views of the county.
