My property is a cosy, welcoming bed and breakfast, situated within the Southdowns National Park, in a peaceful, residential & central street, just a few minutes walk from all parts of the historical town of Lewes. On warm, sunny spring, summer and autumn mornings, guests are welcome to have their breakfast or a complimentary afternoon tea in the garden. Guests love this town & often return year after year! Glyndebourne, the world-famous opera, is but three miles away. In the summer, we now have the jazz festival in a nearby village towards the end of June/beginning of July, which was first established three years ago. Brighton is seven miles away, & the delightful little seaside town of Seaford also seven miles the other way. Eastbourne is 14 miles away. There are many old and pretty villages and other places of interest nearby.
I love Lewes; there's so much to do in this lovely town & the surrounding villages & towns. People are open & friendly here. I'm a visual artist & participate in our local open artists' houses in late August/early September. I'm lucky to have a garden which l love looking after, and in which I'm constantly making improvements, weather permitting!
In my neibourhood, there are many walks of whatever length required. For example, one can walk to Seaford via Rodmel, where Virginia Woolf lived, & visit her lovely house, walking along the river, or go the other way, also alongside the river. Lewes is also a stopping off point for enthusiasts walking from one end of the Southdowns way to the other. From late spring to early autumn, there is the 19th century open air, spring water-filled swimming pool just a few minutes walk from my property, where one can spend all day if so wished, and have a picnic with the children. For smaller children, there is a play park near the swimming pool, or the duck pond. The High Street, a few minutes walk from the B&B, where the shops are mostly individual & sell unique items of clothes for children, men & women, for the home & gifts. There are lots of lovely pubs & restaurants, the station is just a few minutes walk away, Lewes castle is up the road five minutes away.... the list is endless!
