Congreave Farm is a working farm in the small hamlet of Congreave. It is only 1/2 a mile from the A6 but a million miles from the hustle and bustle of modern day living. We warmly invite you to enjoy the peace and quiet of our beautiful 18th Century Grade II listed farmhouse which stands in a cobbled yard. Inside we have retained the character of this lovely old house with exposed original oak beams and stone mullioned windows. During your stay why not enjoy my delicious traditional Derbyshire cooked breakfast. This includes many locally sourced foods such as the legendary Derbyshire Oatcake.
Your hosts, Peter and Deborah, have lived at Congreave Farm for the past 36 years, as tenants of Haddon Estate. The farm is a working sheep farm. 20 years ago we decided to carry out alterations to the farmhouse in order to enable us to set up and run a bed and breakfast business. I feel very fortunate to be able to say that I still take great pleasure in both my hosting and farm work. We have lived in the area all of our lives and come from local families going back many generations. If you need a local guide, we are the people to ask!
Attractions in the area abound, the town of Bakewell is only 2 miles away. This is where the delicious Bakewell Pudding originated. This old market town has much to see including the cattle market held on a Monday. Why not visit Chatsworth House and Park (3 miles), the Stately Home of the Duke and Duchess of Devonshire. It is one of the UK's most visited attractions and holds events throughout the year. These include Horse Trials, dog shows and the wonderful Country Fair held in the first week of September. We have amazing views towards the famous Haddon Hall, the family home of Lord and Lady Edward Manners. Haddon Hall has been the location of various period films including Jane Eyre.
