We are Susan and Barry the owners of Penmaenpool Toll Bridge and holiday cottage. Originally from Cheshire, we sold up and bought the bridge embarking on a complete change of lifestyle. Five years later and the bridge and cottage are going well, keeping us busy and providing us with a beautiful place to live and work. We enjoy meeting new people and welcoming them to a unique holiday experience on a toll bridge.
The Toll Bridge was built in 1879 to replace the ferry crossing that operated at that time. The holiday cottage was added in 1922 for use by the toll keeper. The river is tidal and the cottage is on stilts allowing for the ebb and flow of the water as it advances and retreats under the bridge and cottage. The panoramic views change daily. You may peek out of the windows and see the high tide or a low tide exposing the sand banks and the different species of birds feeding in earnest before the tide advances again.
