Self catering holiday accommodation situated on croft ground on the edge of Taynuilt, comprising of two caravans each having 2 bedrooms (a double and a twin room). Each will sleep 4 people, a sofa bed is available in the living room increasing the capacity to 6. The surrounding area is quiet and peaceful with views of mountains and croft ground. We have cattle, sheep and a few hens, and dogs, your dogs are welcome but must be kept under control because of the animals. We have a small herd of pedigree Salers cattle and a small herd of beef cattle, derived from the Salers. We also have some Hebridean sheep, Ryeland sheep and cheviot crosses. We are happy to show you our animals when we can but this is not always possible as they are moved off the croft for the summer to allow crops to grow for winter feeding.
My husband and I live on the croft adjacent to the caravans. John looks after the animals with the help of our daughter Katie (owner of the Ryeland sheep), when they are not at their regular employment. I look after the caravans and our guests arrivals and departures. Our main outing of the year is the Royal Highland Show held in Ingleston, Edinburgh, which is a huge event for farming people showing animals and trade stands covering every aspect of farming life. Another special event for us is the annual Salers Cattle Society sale in Castle Douglas in November where we purchased our first Salers cattle so a visit is always a must.
There is a 9 hole golf course in the village, also Nelsons monument and historic Bonawe Iron Furnace. The village of Taynuilt has a general grocer, butcher, post office and stationers, hairdresser, craft shop and the Robin's Nest Tearoom. We are only 12 miles from Oban on the west coast of Scotland where ferries run to some of the Western Isles. The Taynuilt Inn is close by for those wishing to eat out, The Brander Lodge is about 2 miles. There are lots of places to eat in Oban and ample scope for shopping.
