Information about the host

Located in the heart of the beautiful Vyrnwy Valley surrounded by the rollings hills of Montgomeryshire. The second floor flat was purpose built when part of the farmhouse was renovated in 2017. It is heated by the farm bio-mass so is always warm and cozy and ideal for the lone traveller or couple. As both the rivers Banwy and Vyrnwy flow through Newbridge Farm, it is not suprising that the farm has built a solid reputation amongst anglers, who enjoy pursuing wild brown trout, grayling, chubb and salmon in the season. Fishing is included in the rental. Above the milking parlour up the steps from the yard is a utility room with washing machine and drier together with a games room with a full size pool table and darts board. Off the utility room is a purpose built viewing platform for guests to view the daily milking. Also resident on the farm besides the dairy cows and sheep are pet Kune Kune pigs. Oscar, who is quite a character, is the boar and father to the other three pigs, Matilda, Dot & Spot. Our other sort of pets are the numerous cats and kittens we have who also have characters of their own and work on the farm to help keep the mouse population under control.

John & Eirian together with two of their three sons, Llewelyn and Ieuan, work on the family run farm and live in the farmhouse. John is a second generation farmer and Eirian was raised on a welsh hill farm not far away. Eirian, Llewelyn and Ieuan are fluent in the Welsh language. As it is a dairy farm there is always someone around to help and advise you if needed. We always like to be here to welcome you, if we can, and have some Bara Brith ready for you to relax and unwind after your journey. We are quite a sport loving family especially, as we are in Wales, Rugby. Our two sons both play, one for COBRA our local team based in Meifod and the other for Bridgnorth RFC, so if you happen to be staying when there is an international on you may hear some shouting!! We always like to introduce you to our pet pigs when you arrive and if you have one have an apple ready for Oscar as he will beg for it. We do not have any other pets but you are welcome to bring yours as long as it is not too big. One big dog or two small dogs. There are plenty of walks in and around Meifod and on some of our fields depending on the weather and where the dairy cows are grazing.

There is a riverside path from near the farm which takes you into Meifod where there is a highly recommended fine old inn, The King's Head, where food is served daily. There is also a small shop and Post Office. Pontrobert and Dolanog are nearby and if you like walking the Ann Griffiths walk starts at Dolanog. On Newbridge Farm are the visible remains of Mathrafal Castle, once the home of Llewelyn, last Prince of Wales, and the site of the 2003 and 2015 National Eisteddfod. Keen walkers should also note that Glyndwr's Way passes quite close by. Also in the local area Powis Castle, Welshpool & Llanfair Steam Railway, Lake Vyrnwy, two excellent Garden Centres and of course Coed-y-Dinas Country Store. In Meifod there are Tennis Courts and a Bowling Green. The nearest golf club is in Welshpool and is on top of a hill. On the farm there are also two holiday cottages Bwthyn Banwy and Bwthyn Vyrnwy which are also on site and on the farmyard with ample car parking for all.
