One of our top picks in Keswick. Offering views of Derwent Water and the surrounding fells, Dalegarth House is located in the Cumbrian village of Portinscale. With an award-winning breakfast, free WiFi access and free parking, the property is 6 minutes' drive from Theatre By The Lake.
Inside each room there is a flat-screen TV and an electric kettle. Featuring a bath or a shower, the private bathroom also comes with a hairdryer and free toiletries. Extras include bed linen and ironing facilities.
At Dalegarth House there is a garden and a bar. Other facilities offered at the property include a shared lounge and luggage storage. An array of activities can be enjoyed on-site or in the surroundings, including cycling and hiking.
The guest house is only 2.1 miles from Keswick Museum and Art Gallery and 3.6 miles from Go Ape Whinlatter Forest Park. Castlerigg Stone Circle is 8 minutes' drive away.
Originally from North Yorkshire, we moved over here in 2012. In a previous life, Clare ran a cafe and Craig worked in the stores department for a family firm of agricultural engineers so it was a natural progression for Clare to run the kitchen and Craig to run front of house at Dalegarth.
Dalegarth House is family run by Craig, Clare & Joyce (Clare's mum). Located in the quiet village of Portinscale, we are only a one-mile drive or stroll to Keswick. The walk into Keswick takes between 15-20minutes and is flat, on a good path and away from the road and also has great views of the Coledale Horseshoe fells, Catbells and Skiddaw. Being in an elevated position in the village gives us great views of Derwentwater. If you're not lucky enough to have booked one of our four lake view rooms, you can still enjoy the lake views from the dining room and the guest lounge. The house also has stunning views of the surrounding fells across the award-winning garden. We have a large onsite free car park (one car per room) so once you arrive you can choose to leave the car behind and explore on foot, bike, bus or boat. General check-in time is 4 pm-8 pm. Earlier times are available by prior arrangement. You are very welcome to check in earlier if you can let us know approximately what time you will arrive. Please do not book if you cannot arrive by 8.00pm
Portinscale is a quiet village on the north western corner of Derwentwater only a mile from Keswick. The village has a cafe and a pub and also has two Marinas. The Honister rambler public bus services runs through the village in the summer months and is a great way to see Borrowdale and Derwentwater, Buttermere and Crummock water. The nearest bus stop is only 400 mtrs from our front door.
