Orchard Cottage offers spacious, comfortable and environmentally friendly living for a family or friends. Our spacious living/kitchen/dining space allows everyone to be together, cooking a communal meal, playing a game, just spending quality time together. At the same time with three bedrooms and bathrooms everyone has the space they need. Two en-suite shower rooms and a master bathroom with enormous tub allows everyone to get clean in peace! On one level, Orchard Cottage is ideal for everyone from those with mobility issues to young children. Our beds are comfy and all linen and towels provided (except beach towels). There's books and games and outside for children there's a swingset in the paddock. Our location down a quiet country lane means you don't have to worry about cars zooming past. We offer you peace and quiet in the countryside with easy access to the Machars and Rhinns Peninsulas, Galloway Forest Park, which is also a Dark Skies Park for those keen on star gazing, and the southwest coast of Scotland. This is an ideal hideaway location in beautiful Galloway.
The Bartons oversaw the building of Orchard Cottage from just 2 walls of an old barn in 2008, specifying environmentally friendly paint, underfloor heating, and our wonderful wood stove. We have been welcoming guests for over 10 years to Orchard Cottage and spent a few weeks in 2019 giving it a facelift, ready for the next 10! We manage the booking process ourselves and our fantastic housekeeper is on hand to deal with your day-to-day enquiries once on site.
Orchard Cottage is ideally placed to explore the Machars Peninsula in this south-western corner of Scotland. Beautiful coastal walks and beaches, the Galloway Hills to explore and climb, peaceful country roads to cycle. There is fishing at the Bladnoch and the Cree Rivers, golfing and gardens galore. We are 7km from Scotland's book town Wigtown, home to the famous The Bookshop and author Shaun Bythell and the town hosts an annual festival every September. Heading 15km south you'll find Whithorn and the Isle of Whithorn with St Ninian's chapel and route to the cave of St Ninian, a rival claimant to Columba of bringing Christianity to Scotland. Families will enjoy Galloway Forest Park, Cream of Galloway and exploring the beaches and rockpools nearby. For a birds eye view of your surroundings, climb the Iron Age Hill Fort next to the cottage - you can say hello to the horses paddocked there. You are the only cottqge on site and we are located down a quiet country lane. There will be the odd milk tanker trundling past to the farm below us, but this is a peaceful location.
