Featured in Country Life magazine, The Daily Telegraph, and on Talk Talk radio, Ellesmere is a home from home. It's an elegant Victorian three-floored, warm and friendly, family house in the historic town of Castle Cary Somerset with large open rooms and high ceilings. The house backs on to a pretty garden that leads through to farmland which is an excellent walking area. The house is by the Macmillan Way which was founded by a resident of Cary. Location wise, it is near a mainline railway station and good arterial road routes. We offer fantastic breakfasts in the house's kitchen. Food is all sourced locally. We make our own granola and muesli, as well as jams and compotes. We do suppers on request. All the rooms are stylishly decorated with a mixture of pieces collected or inherited by Martin and Melanie, each individually named after their children. Every rooms has a TV, tea and coffee making facilities, a hairdryer, USB ports and more. Please note that under Coronavirus regulations we have limited space in the property and the drawing room is no longer open for guest use.
Martin for many years ran a family business designing and creating follies, pots and urns for gardens some of which are featured in Ellesmere's garden. He exhibited at Chelsea Flower Shower for 25 years and also at Hampton Court and other garden shows. Many garden centres around the UK feature and sell his work. Today he spends more time being a perfect host to guests at Ellesmere with making coffee in the morning a particular speciality. Having been born and brought up in Somerset, there is little he doesn't know about the area and is particularly knowledgeable about restaurants, pubs and places to visit. Melanie is a journalist by training and now spends most of her time running Ellesmere. Like Martin, she is a passionate foodie. They both celebrate everything local, are married and have three children between them plus one grandchild with another on the way in Spring 2020.
