Information about the host

Fordbank House is an elegant residence dating from 1830 and built by George McClelland who ran the potato and farina mill in nearby Bladnoch. His sons founded the Bladnoch Distillery in 1817 which was recently opened by the Duke of Rothesay. The house stands majestically overlooking the surrounding Galloway countryside, and is situated in a private, gated 1 acre garden which the owners are landscaping. David and Lesley are restoring the house to its former glory and let out three comfortable rooms - a king, double and twin, all with ensuite facilities. Guests can enjoy the panoramic views while they have a delicious home-cooked breakfast in the dining room.

David and I started hosting at the 2018 Book Festival in Wigtown and decided we would like to continue. We enjoy meeting people from all walks of life and take pleasure in sharing our beautiful home with them and recommending local attractions and places to eat.

Fordbank is situated between Wigtown and Bladnoch and visitors are spoiled for choice when it comes to eating out. The Bladnoch Inn is a warm cosy pub with good food just a few hundred yards away, while the Craft Hotel in Wigtown, the Crown Hotel in Newton Stewart and the Pheasant in Sorbie are also very close. The Crafty Gin Distillery and Bladnoch Distillery, both offer tours and also have cafe facilities on site. For sheer indulgence, Reading Lasses is a must for home-made soups and cakes, as is Cafe Rendezvous. Being Scotlands National Booktown, means there's never an excuse to be bored, and the annual Festival in late September is a must. The area is rich in history, has plenty for nature lovers and lovers of the outdoors and there is always something going on! The proximity of the Solway Firth means that beaches are not that far away and Fordbank is just 15 minutes by car to Galloway House and Gardens, and Rigg Bay, the site of Mulberry Harbour manoeuvres in WW2.
