Information about the host

Ginny Ring Cottage is a detached stone built cottage for two. It is set amongst the rolling hillside just off the A5 coaching route from London to Holyhead with spectacular views down the Dee Valley. The cottage comprises one double bedroom with wardrobe, dressing table and window giving views onto the courtyard; a fully fitted bathroom / wet room with shower, basin and WC; slate steps down to the lounge area with Aga woodburner and comfortable seating. The lounge area has a 32" smart Freesat TV and DVD player. The cottage has oak floors throughout with underfloor heating. An oak staircase rises from the lounge into a further galleried mezzanine area furnished with sofa, chairs and coffee table for a comfortable reading and relaxation area. The large window allows spectacular views down the Dee Valley (Area Of Outstanding Natural Beauty) as far as Castell Dinas Bran in Llangollen 15 miles away. At the rear of the lounge area is a fully equipped fitted kitchen / dining area with 4 ring hob, oven, sink, microwave, fridge-freezer, coffee maker, kettle, toaster. Outside is a large private patio area with garden furniture, barbecue and great views of the Edeyrnion Valley.

Jeff and Fiona have sensitively restored this 18th century Welsh farmstead and retained many of it's original features including the horse gin that lends it's name to the cottage. Fiona has trained as an AONB guide for the Dee Valley and looks forward to passing on any information about it's history and ecology. We are both avid walkers and cyclists and can advise on great routes to enjoy locally. Corwen runs an increasingly popular Walking Festival in September with a mixture of guided and self led walks, for all abilities, around the locality and up onto the Berwyn and Llantysilio ranges. We also very keen motorcyclists and have several bikes dating from the late 50's to the 80's. Jeff prides himself on his workshops so tools are available if you need to tweak your ride! The Ponderosa Cafe at the top of the Horseshoe Pass is a bikers haven with exceptional views and good food. Jeff and Fiona also run their e-bike sales and repair business on the farmstead, and offer no obligation test rides to prospective clients - and our workshop facilities are available if your own cycles need any running repairs or spares.

The nearby town of Corwen is renowned as the hometown of the last Welsh born Prince of Wales, Owain Glyndwr and his resistance to English tyranny under Henry IV in 1400 AD. Visit the site of his Manor House and Motte where he rallied his troops, or walk up to the viewpoint at Pen y Pigyn to see where he threw down his dagger and notched the lintel in the medieval parish church of St Mael and St Sulien. Admire the views across Snowdonia and the Berwyn from Caer Drewyn Hillfort, the Iron Age settlement above Corwen, and look out for Red Kite and Buzzards. Or, take a leisurely trip from Corwen to Llangollen on the steam heritage railway running services each day throughout the summer and hauled by a variety of locos. Spot otters, kingfishers or wading birds on the River Dee as you travel under steam or in the luxury of a heritage railcar. In July Llangollen hosts the annual International Eisteddfod,a celebration of world music and culture set against a stunning backdrop of Dinas Bran castle, River Dee and Telford's engineering wonders of the Horseshoe Falls, Canal and A5. Stroll along the canal to cross his World Heritage Froncysyllte Aqueduct. You'll need a head for heights!
