High Force is located in the charming village of St John’s Chapel in Weardale, on the south side of the River Wear. The largest village in the upper dale, this spot is especially popular with cyclists and walkers. A great location for those doing the alternative C2C route or trying their hand at challenges by Roof of England Cycling, there is plenty for you to discover on two wheels. If you’d prefer to explore by foot, there are so many walks on offer. You can enjoy quiet river walks, the long distance Weardale Way or hikes to the higher ground overlooking the valley. The area is so beautiful, it makes up the North Pennines Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. With thriving wildlife, a historic landscape and stunning scenery, it really does need to be seen to be believed. It is home to England’s largest waterfall – High Force which our apartment is named after – and one of the darkest skies in the country where you can see 1000s of stars on clear night.
