The building is 300 years old and was a former bastle house or fortified farmhouse. It was fully renovated in 2011 to make a relaxing home from home. The ground floor living area is open plan and is accessed by three very shallow steps. We can provide a ramp if necessary. There is also a bedroom with either two single or one superking bed and a ground floor bathroom with grab handles and a shower over the bath. A boot/mud room is provided right by the front door so you can take off muddy boots easily. Upstairs are two bedrooms: one is a double with an en suite shower room and the other is a twin which can also be superking with adjoining shower room. Outside the front is parking for three cars and a sitting area. At the back is an enclosed garden and patio with patio furniture and extensive views out over the valley and fells. We provide cots: one travel cot and one standard cot, plus high chair and other items can be provided on request. Sometimes we can provide age surprise toys too. The cottage is also equipped for dogs. We accept two well behaved dogs and three at our discretion. For the dogs we provide towels, identity tags, throws, crates of you require and more.
Or cottage really is a labour of love. When we bought our house it had a semi derelict barn next door. It took us many years and a lot of learning, but eventually the whole family worked together to make our old barn into the comfortable and peaceful cottage it is today. During the planning stages we decided to make the cottage as eco friendly as possible. This is an important part of who we are so it made sense to continue with it in our holiday cottage. We love to know that other people are enjoying their stay at our cottage. It is very important to us that guests enjoy their stay. As we live next door we can be in hand if you need anything during your stay but can also be as unobtrusive as you want too. When we moved here we discovered that it is close to a waterfall that I had fallen in love with as a child. Ashgill Force is just under two miles from the cottage and makes a great half day walk from here. We love the views, walking, the local town for shopping in local independent shops and visiting the friendly pubs and cafes nearby.
