Our house is a traditional Devon longhouse and was a working farm until the 1980's. It was built in the early 1700's and has been altered over the centuries. We undertook a large renovation project when we moved here in 2006 and each year we try to update a couple of rooms to keep them fresh. The B&B offers very private accommodation with the two rooms in the house having a separate entrance to our living quarters and are in a separate part of the house. The two barn rooms offer even more privacy, The gardens and grounds are a lovely place to relax in the summer months and guests have full use of them. We are located down a quiet lane, with rural views from all rooms. We are ideally located to explore Dartmoor and the coastal areas of South Devon.
We moved here from Wiltshire in 2006 and this is our first B&B. We both enjoy walking as we have two dogs who love getting out. Dartmoor is our favourite place. Within a few minutes you can be in Hembury woods walking along the river or woods in such peaceful surroundings. Another favourite of ours is Newbridge, another beautiful walk by the River Dart. I am interested in interior design and like going to the cinema. We both enjoy eating out - and we are lucky to have some great places to eat locally. Martin goes pheasant shooting in the winter months and works our cocker spaniel who loves it.
We live in a beautiful area. The nearest town is Buckfastleigh -a mile away. This small but quaint historic town has a good selection of facilities including two farm shops, a supermarket and a coffee shop and tea rooms . There are several pubs in the town, a good family run restaurant, fish & chip shop and Chinese takeaway. The is also the Otter Sanctuary and Butterfly Farm located at the The South Devon Railway - a must see attraction. There is also Buckfast Abbey with a stunning stained glass window, gift shops and gardens. Dartmoor National Park is a short drive away and is an unspoilt area for those seeking peace and tranquility. We are close to the historic town of Totnes, with its' eclectic high street, weekly market and great eating places. Within a 40 minute drive, you can be on the coast - Dartmouth, Salcombe, Hope Cove are easily reached by car. The cities of Exeter with its beautiful Cathedral and Plymouth on the coast are just 22 miles away. Finally, the are several National Trust properties including Saltram House, Coleton Fishacres which are well worth a visit.
