Kincraig Castle Hotel is set in an elevated position within its own extensive grounds, offering views towards the Cromarty Firth. Originally built in 1800, the bedrooms, guest lounge, traditional bar and dining room all retain most of their original features.

Kincraig Castle’s 2 Red Rosette restaurants serve fine food, and local Dalmore malts can be tasted in the lounge, which boasts an exceptional Adam fireplace.

Easy day trips can be made to Ullapool, Aviemore, Wick, Inverewe Gardens and Kyle of Lochalsh. Kincraig Castle is centrally located for access to the nearby beaches and golf courses.

Information about the host

The exterior of Kincraig Castle Hotel remains largely unchanged since its construction in the early 1800s and the interior has been extensively refurbished, to bring it back to and beyond its former glory. Kincraig Castle and the lands and villages of Kincraig were acquired by Colin MacKenzie, the second son of Rorie Mhor MacKenzie of Redcastle, who died in 1649, and is thought to have come to Kincraig about 1630. Colin's great-grandson, John V of Kincraig, made over Kincraig to his distant cousin Roderick VII of Redcastle in 1760 and he gave Kincraig to his second son, John. After a very lucrative career in India, John returned to redevelop Kincraig. The work was enhanced by John's great-grandson - Sir Walter Martineau - in 1919, when he converted the sandstone castle into the white-harled Scottish Baronial building that you see today. So there you have it - a castle from the deep mists of the past that has evolved through generations of the Clan MacKenzie into the now renowned Kincraig Castle Hotel. We also have what we like to call 20/20. This means that for all those keen Golfers out there, that within 20 miles of the hotel there are 20 Golf courses to choose from.

We have 20 Golf Courses within 20 miles, at Reception we are happy to book Tee- Off's. There are many local walks ranging from Hill walks to family friendly and an abundance of beaches to choose from. Dunrobin Castle is not far away, along with Dornoch Cathedral. We can organise tours for the local whisky distilleries, Dalmore and Glenmorangie.
