Little Sussex House is a charming unique house in the heart of the historic mediaeval town of Rye, East Sussex. Sleeping up to four guests in two double rooms it is the perfect base for exploring this beautiful historic town close to the sea.
We moved to Rye in 2011 having enjoyed weekend breaks at Camber Sands. We love all that Rye has to offer - stunning historic surroundings, an international Arts festival, interesting independent shops, wonderful restaurants - all within walking distance. Although we have a pretty town garden we also enjoy our allotment, and being able to visit beautiful gardens nearby including Great Dixter and Sissinghurst. Camber Sands has an amazing beach; miles of golden sand, especially enjoyable in the early morning and in the evening. We feel very fortunate to live in such a lovely location with easy links to London, Brighton and France.
Little Sussex House is situated directly opposite Lamb House (a National Trust property) which was previously the home of the author Henry James. Located on a quiet cobbled street, it is yards from historic Mermaid Street in one direction, and the ancient parish church in its beautiful square in the other. The High Street, situated at the bottom of West Street, is moments away and full of independent shops, galleries, bars and cafes. There is a good train service to Ashford International, from where the High-Speed train reaches London in 38 minutes. In the opposite direction a scenic coastal route takes you to the towns of Hastings, Eastbourne and Brighton. There are frequent bus services starting from the Station Approach to Camber Sands, Folkestone and Dover in one direction, and Hastings in the other. There is a timetable for trains and buses in the copy of "Fixtures" which will be available in the house. Local taxi phone numbers are in the welcome folder. Other local attractions eg the gardens of Great Dixter and Bodiam Castle are a short distance away by car. Our house guide provides a comprehensive list of local attractions.
