Seaton is a picturesque village and beach, situated at the mouth of the the river Seaton, 3 miles east of Looe and 10 miles west of Plymouth, the river flows down the valley from Hessenford through a pretty wooded valley. Seaton beach is mainly sand and shingle and extends 1 mile east to the small resort of Downderry. Seaton itself has a number of pubs, cafes and restaurants. Immediately to the north of the village is the Seaton Valley Countryside Park, one of only four country parks in Cornwall. The park occupies fifty four hectares of a once-derelict caravan site and is home to a sensory garden, numerous cycleways and footpaths and the first nature reserve in Cornwall to receive a green flag (the green space equivalent of the blue flag used for beaches). The nature reserve is home to Otters, Kingfishers and Fritillary Butterflies and includes a nature trail that can be followed for nearly two miles, to Hessenford.
