The cabin at Macaulay Farm is a luxury, open plan, self-catering, timber frame built by Charles who has an eco-building workshop - Fior Living - on the farm. The cabin sleeps two people in a double bed with views from the living room that overlook the farm. The kitchen is fitted out with a small dining area, a double gas hob, fridge and combination oven, microwave and grill. The bathroom features a luxury rain head shower and outside there’s a picnic bench and small BBQ should you need it. The cabin has a small TV but no wifi as yet - though we’re happy to help you out if you need it. The cabin is self check-in via a key and lockbox by the door but we hope to see you on the farm!
Charles and Ginny are artists, builders, occassional farmers and fairweather cyclists. Charles can generally be found building eco-houses or digging ditches. Ginny works part-time at the art school in Edinburgh and is currently cleaning out the old pig shed.
The Cabin at Macaulay Farm is situated on a working farm on the outskirts of Stornoway, alongside the River Creed and Lews Castle Grounds. The cabin has open views over the islands' stunning moorland and on a clear day the mountains of Assynt can be seen across the Minch. Lews Castle grounds are a short walk through the farm and are filled with scenic walks, gentle cycle paths and much more adventurous off road mountain biking trails. A 10-minute cycle through the grounds will take you to Stornoway where you can enjoy the sights and sounds of the harbour and the smell of the smokehouses preparing local delicacies. Cuddy Point, a small historical pier in the grounds, is the meeting point for the sea kayaking club and other water sport activities including paddle boarding. Macaulay Farm is a working farm run for and by a fantastic bunch of folk with additional social and educational requirements. On the farm we keep a selection of rare breed animals including sheep, goats, rabbits and pigs. It’s not appropriate to have favourites they say, but the unicHorn sheep and the Kune Kune pigs are breaking hearts and giving us a snigger.
