Set beside a giant copper beech tree, the Regency-period Lodge is the original gatehouse to Kingscote Park House located on the beautiful, 28-acre Matara Estate in Kingscote village in the South Cotswolds. The Lodge has been cleverly converted into the perfect cottage hideaway and features a dramatic, double-height, open-plan living area, with a king-size bed to one side, a fully equipped kitchenette and dining area, and separate bathroom with luxurious jacuzzi tub and rain shower. The Lodge has its own private garden as well as access to Matara’s 28 acres of parklands, formal gardens and woodlands, with public footpaths, including the Cotswold Way, right on the doorstep, and the village pub just steps away. The Lodge is the original gatehouse to Kingscote House, a beautiful 9-bedroom mansion with an 800-year history. From the outside, the Lodge looks quite petite, but step inside and you’ll be amazed by its spaciousness. The vaulted ceiling, painted a stunning royal blue, windows in all directions, a fantastically big porthole in the bathroom, and gorgeous Regency window to sit at while working or reading make the Lodge light, bright and feel far bigger than its size.

The Matara Estate is in the village of Kingscote and includes 28 acres of woodland and parkland that guests are free to explore. (To fully appreciate the surroundings, guests can book private guided tours of the Estate.) The Lodge is just a few minutes’ walk to the local pub and about a 15-minute drive to the popular local Cotswold towns of Tetbury, Nailsworth and Stroud, all offering an excellent variety of shops, restaurants and bars. Local attractions such as Newark Park (National Trust), Westonbirt Arboretum, Woodchester Mansion and Highgrove and Badminton are all within 15 minutes’ drive. (See ‘Local Amenities & Attractions’.)
