With superb walks and cycle routes in all directions directly from Matlock Spa, you are in the heart of the country. Matlock town centre is less than a 10 minute walk and the railway station and Sainsburys supermarket are both within a 5 minute walk. Local treasures such as Chatsworth House, Bakewell, Buxton, Matlock Bath and the beauty of the Peak District and Derwent Valley are all close by and easily reached by road, cycle and public transport.

Matlock itself is a lovely place to wander awhile, browsing the shops and riverside park, stopping every now and then for a drink or meal. There are restaurants aplenty with most cuisines and budgets catered for. Peak Rail allows you to watch the countryside from the comfort of a steam train. Just to the south is the famous spa town of Matlock Bath - a 20-30 minute walk or 3 minute drive. As well as the beautiful scenery, you can take a cable car to the majestic Heights of Abraham or take the children to Gulliver's Kingdom. To the north are the towns of Bakewell and Buxton, plus the incomparable Chatsworth House and Estate - a must-see. The High Peak Trail offers walks and cycle rides along former railway lines, with stunning views from Monsal Head viaduct and tunnels and industrial heritage to break up the journey (with a picnic or ice cream perhaps).
