Mona's Cottage is a recently renovated and updated 150 year old stone cottage. Second in a row of 11 stone cottages on the outskirts of the small village of Scremerston, near Berwick upon Tweed. Just off the old A1 main road which was by-passed many years ago, it is surrounded by fields and woodland giving a truly rural feel, but only a couple of miles from the historic Berwick upon Tweed. Mona's has been completely gutted inside, new windows, heating, kitchen and bathroom fitted to give a comfortable and tasteful home. And that's exactly what it is! I stay there when ever I can and it's filled with personal touches. The decor is light and simple to give a pleasant, calm atmosphere. Cosy in winter and filled with sunshine in summer. Basically I love it, it's clean, uncluttered and very comfortable. Luxury linens, towels and toiletries are provided for guests. We also have the benefit of nightly visits from an Ice Cream Van and once a week a mobile Fish & Chip Van, both excellent.
Born and bred in Northumberland, I love this county and the Scottish Borders. I live further down the coast about 40 miles away, but still love finding new and old places to visit when I come up to Mona's with my family. My daughters and I like to have girls nights at Mona's, an excellent pizza takeaway from Pizzaolo and a chick flick. Perfect!
The residents of Deputy Row are friendly and very good neighbours. There is so much to do around Berwick upon Tweed and further afield in Northumberland and the Scottish Borders. Lovely walks in the country and along our Heritage Coastline. Lots of castles, monuments and places of interest on the doorstep. Just down the road in Berwick upon Tweed there are lovely coffee shops, restaurants, pubs and quaint shops, not to mention all the historic places in Berwick. Coocklawburn Beach is just down the road, you can see right down the coast to Bamburgh Castle and the sunrises are bueatiful. Mona's is a great base for exploring, the East Coast Train stops at Berwick for a quick trip to Edinburgh or Newcastle.
