One of our top picks in Knaresborough. Winner of 2019 Taste Award for Best Yorkshire Breakfast (Yorkshire Post/Deliciouslyorkshire).
Situated in Knaresborough, a 10-minute drive from Harrogate, this 300-year-old townhouse combines Georgian elegance with modern comforts. Free WiFi is available throughout. Some free parking is available, but is limited to the size of the property's courtyard.
Newton House’s award-winning breakfasts are made using fresh local ingredients that are in season. This includes free-range eggs and bacon, award-winning smoked salmon, homemade granola, fruit compotes and preserves.
The spacious guest sitting-room has the smallest bar in Knaresborough, which is operated as an honesty bar for guests' convenience.
Rooms are spacious and traditionally furnished, and each has a flat-screen TV with a DVD player, tea and coffee making facilities, and an en suite bathroom with shower and free toiletries.
York is a 30-minute drive from Newton House, and the Yorkshire Dales National Park can be reached in 45 minutes by car. The A1M is a 5-minute drive from the guest house and Great Yorkshire Showground is a 10-minute drive away.
Newton House is an AA inspected, Four Gold Star Guest House - it is not a hotel, although most of our guests think that we are. We offer traditional values and friendly hospitality, an 'honesty' bar, comfortable beds and 'award-winning' breakfasts (but if you want 24-hour reception/concierge, evening meals on-site, room service, and a manned bar you may be disappointed.) Newton Hose was allegedly built with stones from Knaresborough Castle. We have 12 roomy rooms each decorated and furnished to a high standard and we pay great attention to detail and comfort. We are used to looking after the needs of business travellers - and offer flexible accommodation for groups of up to 24 people (from family gatherings to special interest breaks) We are lucky to be able to offer some free parking in the middle of town, but it is limited by the size of our courtyard/car park. We have two 'pet-friendly' rooms which have direct access from the courtyard car park and welcome well-behaved dogs and other pets. Although we do not generally serve evening meals at Newton House, we are happy to rustle up a light snack, particularly for guests travelling on their own, or arriving late.
Denise, has been running Newton House, with her team of 'Newton House Ladies' for over five years and is proud of the service she offers. Denise has lived and worked in Knaresborough and Harrogate for over 16 years, and worked in the British tourism and leisure industry for much longer. She has a wide knowledge of places of interest and is only too pleased to offer advice on places to visit, places to eat and local walks. Denise is passionate about serving food of the highest quality to her guests, and consistently supports a range of local producers. When she can escape, Denise will be out foraging for edible fungi and other wild food which may be on the menu for breakfast. All Newton House preserves are home-made, and are delicious served with Denise's own home-made sourdough bread.
Newton House is situated in the centre of the historic market town of Knaresborough. We are on the main road, but all the facilities of the town are close at hand. We have lots of cafes, pubs and restaurants; plus independent shops and galleries. We have the A1(M) Jtn 47 just 5 minutes away, and one of the largest exhibition and conference centres in the North, Harrogate International Centre, just 3 miles away (buses run every 7 mins from the bus station just across the road; and trains twice an hour from Knaresborough Train Station, just 8 mins walk). The Yorkshire Events Centre and Great Yorkshire Showground are under 3 miles (5km) away – and, with a route avoiding the traffic, easier to reach from Knaresborough than they are from Harrogate. Just a 5-minute drive from the A1M, we are perfectly situated for breaking a journey between the North and the South. Perfectly situated for exploring North Yorkshire, and further afield Knaresborough is a gateway to the Yorkshire Dales, and historic York is only half-an-hour by rail or road. The North York Moors and the North Yorkshire coast are only an hour away.
