The Cairns is a modern apartment building standing back from the North Connel to Bonawe Road overlooking the Connel Bridge and the Falls of Lora. Apartment One is a ground floor suite of rooms comprising a spacious living/dining/kitchen area, bathroom with bath and shower, study/TV room, twin bedroom and master bedroom with a king-size bed and en-suite with shower.
Gaynor is a long-term resident of North Connel, having moved here in 1983 when her husband took up a scientific post at the Dunstaffnage Marine Laboratory. As a couple they became partners in a fish farm for almost ten years and then ran a computer business before taking up paid employment. Now working part-time at the Wool and Needlework Centre, Gaynor has begun to develop One The Cairns as holiday accommodation after inheriting it from her mother in 2019. She enjoys crafts, gardening and going to rock concerts.
North Connel is situated six miles to the north of Oban, on the A828 main road. One the Cairns was completed in 2015 as a development of five luxury apartments. To north rises Ben Lora, viewed from the rear of the building over open fields. To the west the peaks of Mull are visible beyond the Connel Bridge, famously spanning the Falls of Lora, one of very few marine waterfalls in the world. A fifteen minute walk or five minute drive across the bridge takes one to Connel Village, where there is a railway station on the Oban to Crianlarich line, shop and post office, also the Falls of Lora Hotel with food and drink available. On the way to Connel lies the Oyster Bar and Inn, a famous seafood restaurant that also serves superb Scottish cuisine. Closer to hand, the Lochnell Arms Hotel in North Connel welcomes non-residents with a range of drinks in the bars and a dining room providing family-friendly food. North Connel is an excellent base for walking, fishing, cycling, kayaking, sailing and exploring North Argyll.
