Pros: I thought the staff were really helpful and couldn't do enough to help-extremely polite and charming. Hotel was easy to find and had good parking. Room was spacious and really comfortable and in the main old house which was good. Meal in the evening was nice, good food and had a good, intimate atmosphere. We were able to walk to Rothley very easily for a Steam gala which worked really well and I can see us coming again.
Cons: Bathroom was clean but really knackered and old- needed a massive refurb. Breakfast was really average- wouldn't recommend particularly. No fruit salad, small portions for a full English and not very tasty. The hot water for the tea was kept in large urns and was tainted by the taste of coffee- clearly from previous use- very obviously and so was absolutely disgusting- undrinkable.

Pros: The rooms were clean, quiet, warm and comfortable. The main building was amazing. Full of character.
Cons: The reception area was scruffy and outdated looking. The receptionist was missing on both occasions we tried to contact her. We had trouble booking in because they had listed the second room under the name of our guests and not under my name. So they told us that there were no twin rooms left, when actually one was already booked for us. This must happen all the time. You’d think they might suspect that was what had happened. It was extremely annoying and we were not off to a great start. I needed a bath mat as I’m frightened of slipping in the shower. You had to ask at reception for one, which is bad enough, curious to say the least, but when I did ask, they couldn’t find one and had to go to housekeeping, which took ages. I tried to get one on our way out for the evening, but the reception was unmanned again. Breakfast was adequate, but the coffee was awful. Served up in insulated jugs and stone cold. They did provide gluten free toast, which was nice, but by the time they had left off everything my daughter and I couldn’t have because we are coeliac, the breakfast could only be described as okay. My son has moved to Rothley and we will no doubt have to use this hotel again. If it weren’t for the comfortable rooms. I wouldn’t bother. I’d rather go somewhere further afield and drive back Overall impression: only just passes as adequate, and overpriced.

Pros: Old fashioned historical charm
Cons: You had to jostle through a load of smokers (very drunk) at entrance of hotel... Needs a dedicated smoking area away from entrance.

Pros: Staff were very good. Good location for the activities we wanted. Nice breakfast with plenty of choice. Walk into the small town with excellent pubs was only 10 mins.
Cons: Needed a refit as a little dated and worn. We stayed in the annex and the sound proofing was non existent. Woken up 2 out of 3 night stay due to other residents inconsideration
