Rysa House Bed & Breakfast is a detached house set in the farmland of Stromness. Our views start with rolling fields in front of the house filled with sheep cows horses and seabirds down to the shore. We have fantastic sea views of Scapa Flow and the islands of Gramesay ,Flotta and Hoy plus on a clear day we have views to the mountains of Sutherland in Scotland. Our house is very homely with lots local artists paintings of Orkney on the stairwell walls. You'll also find a selection of local Books & maps for you to browse. The dinning room can be used in the evenings as there's a big comfy sofa in it so a great place to watch the sunsets with a glass of wine.
We're a husband and wife team and we've found hosting guests very enjoyable and interesting. We're always on hand to help by text email or a knock on the door, We're happy to help you arrange where we can with phone numbers of restaurant's, taxi's. car or bike hire or ferries. We have put a file together in your rooms with all the local tourist information and timetables.
Stromness is next to our famous Neolithic sites which you can walk cycle or take a bus to. As we're on the coast you'll find lots of super wildlife walks with otters, whales, seals and puffins to see. The town has a wonderful Art gallery a very interesting museum. An indoor pool and leisure centre our golf course and bowling green is on the shoreline with fantastic views. The town also hosts various music festivals throughout the summer it starts with the Folk festival then onto the Blues , Jazz and Rock. In July our family gala week with competition's and dances for all. The shops sell a super range of Orkney Arts & crafts, handmade clothes, jewellery plus a wide range of local food produces from seafood, meats, cheeses, sweets, beers, whiskey and gin to name a few. Stromness is also the place to arrange Diving trips and lessons or Sea and Loch fishing trips. Your rambling will take you over beautiful heather covered peatland. Summer time it's light all night and in the winter time watch the Merry Dancers also known as the Aurora Borealis a wondrous site.
