Winner of Visit England Rose Award 2016 and Beautiful South Silver Best B&B 2016 and 2017. South Lodge is an unusual one storey building that has had different uses over the years. In the 19th and early 20th century it was the gamekeeper's cottage to Wavendon House, a local aristocratic home. This home was sold to the government at the outset of the second world war to house WRNs working at Bletchley Park. The south lodge (there is a north one too!) then became storage for goods for the tenants. WRNs working at Bletchley Park (just five miles down the road) would have walked past our front door every day to catch the train from Woburn Sands to Bletchley Park - which is still running! The land attached to Wavendon House is now a golf course, which means that South Lodge backs onto some greens - and a lovely landscape. Since the 1980s South Lodge has been 'sympathetically' extended to create boutique B&B and private bedrooms. Matching the brick and roof tiles of the 19th century has been a challenge but we found them in the end. We also still have about three quarters of an acre of garden, which guests are welcome to enjoy. I can't imagine living anywhere else.
Your hosts are Julia and Colin and we have lived here since 1992. We love the area, and love Milton Keynes too. We really enjoy running the B&B business - it's not something we could do if we didn't. Apart from that well, we obviously love gardening, plus ballroom dancing and theatre.
Our weekend guests stay to see all sorts of attractions, the main ones being Bletchley Park, Woburn Abbey and the huge Milton Keynes shopping centre! We are also blessed to have plenty of good restaurants in the local area, including within walking distance. There's some lovely walking around here too, which is why we take pets on request. Part of our attraction though is just to have a 'chill out' getaway in lovely surroundings and many of my guests arrive having got a last minute babysitter!
