The property was built in the 15th century, it was originally used as a Mill House when Stoney Lane was a market street. The cottage is in a cobbled street rising steeply towards the churchyard. Fronting the street are three medieval cottages, forming a delightfully picturesque sight. One of these is Dick Turpin's Cottage where he lived as a butcher before he started his life of crime! Another is the famous GuildHall and Lock-up....so children beware or mum and dad may send you to the 15th century prison !
My names Steve, I lived in 6 Stoney for a few years and have enjoyed every minute living in this beautiful town with its picturesque views. I have decided to rent this as a holiday home so others can enjoy the area and all its surrounding beauty. There are a few books in the cottage if your interested in learning the history of Stoney Lane and a few board games and a PS4 for the kids to play (and for us adults who refuse to grow up)
Thaxted has been described as the 'jewel in the crown' of Essex. There are also 3 pubs/restaurants a wine bar, cafe and many other amenities to cater for your every need all within 100 yards of the property.
