We love where we live and we can be found, cycling, running or walking along the lovely beaches that dot our coast, enjoying the quiet lanes on our bicycles or running on the trails. We love supporting local events and can share our local secrets if looking for something different, to enjoying local one day courses with local artists, birdwatching trips at Rye Harbour Nature Reserve, or wine tasting at one of the many vineyards that are located in the 1066 area. Our aim is to offer a truly personal service to make your stay at one of our holiday cottages as relaxing as we possibly can. Any queries or issues you may have during your stay, we are here to help. For 6 guests or less, we can offer a good discount. You still have use of all the facilities. The Strand House Winchelsea is a 14th century holiday cottage sleeping 12 guests, in 6 bedrooms all with their own shower or bathroom. The perfect home to gather with family & friends. Large dining room with inglenook fireplace, lounge with wood-burner, industrial working kitchen, a chef's delight, utility room with washing machine. TV's in all bedrooms and one in the lounge. Cosy seating areas. Large garden & parking for 6 cars on the gravel drive. Allows 2 well-behaved dogs. As the house is rather old, its comes with lots of charming quirks, sloping floors, low beams in places, steep stairs, open staircases and low windowsills. The driveway is gated BUT dogs should be kept on a lead in the grounds and children should be warned of the danger. Due to the low window sills, open staircases, non gated driveway we do not allow children under the age of 8 unless 'babes in arms' We can provide a travel cot & on request. We do ask that if you bring your dog too, there is an additional charge per dog and that you do not let them upstairs into the bedrooms or on the furniture.
Winchelsea is a pretty & historic town. The cottage once stood on the town quay when the sea used to come up almost to the house. The town had a very colourful past and was very popular with smugglers and still shows the signs today with its many linked cellars and open lofts, all convenient for quick escapes from the law. You can arrange a cellar tour whilst staying and relive the history. Rye is only 3 miles away and has the famous cobbled Mermaid Street & Ypres Tower, worth a visit. There are plenty of lovely beaches all within an easy drive, Camber sands, 6 miles, Winchelsea Beach 1 mile, Pett Level 4.5 miles, so lots of choice. The seaside town of Hastings is about a 20 minute drive away. 1066 country has lots of National Trust houses & gardens, castles & attractions. Rye Harbour Nature Reserve is close by and Dungeness Nature Reserve is about a 30 minute drive away. The cottage is a great base for walkers as easy access to the 1066 trails. Strand House really is a great house for enjoying all the local events that take place throughout the year, Rye Jazz festival, Rye Arts & Music festival, Festival of the sea, Christmas festival & the bonfire celebrations in Winchelsea
