Gretna and Gretna Green are probably best know world wide for the wedding trade which originates back in the days of coach and horses, when this was the first coaching stop north of the England/Scotland border. Runaway couples could get married at a younger age in Scotland without their parents consent than they could in England, so here right on the border there has grown a healthy industry with couples able to marry in over a dozen venues in the area, with the World Famous Blacksmith's Shop being the best known. The Devils Porage Museum at nearby Eastriggs tells the history of HM. Factory Gretna, built during World War 1 to make the Cordite to fill the shells for the guns on the front in northern France, it was at this time that the township of Gretna was built (Gretna Green already existed) and this was when the land belonging to Surrone House Farm was compulsory purchased to facilitate the building of the Township of Gretna. Nearby is the only triangular castle in Britain, complete with moat, Caerlaverock Castle is a must if touring the area. For those who want some retail therapy, the Gretna Gateway Outlet Shopping Centre is a mere 300 yards away from Surrone House
