Ali & Al Pyke live in the area nearby with their Jack Russell Tess; they love walking locally and further afield, and will be happy to recommend short and longer walks for all abilities. They both love exploring Scotland, and there are lots of pointers for days out, around the West Coast and further afield, in the flats information pack. Ali loves finding new things for people to do, so let her know if you have any particular interests. They love both the nature and the history of this part of Scotland, Al carried out design for the Clyde Sea Lochs Trails, the Three Lochs Way and Hidden Heritage Trail projects amongst others, so they know the area well. Al is also a professional photographer, and the flat features some of his nature prints. He is also a SCIACC game angling instructor and will be happy to recommend fishing or arrange casting instruction.
Helensburgh known as the home of Rennie Mackintosh's famous Hill House, is a thriving sea-side town with a variety of shops, restaurants & coffee shops. It lies at the edge of the Loch Lomond & The Trossachs National Park only 15 minutes drive from Loch Lomond Shore & the amenities there. Local shops include a delicatessen, two butchers, greengrocers & bakeries make it easy to eat in, or prepare delicious picnic fare. There is also a choice of supermarkets including two within walking distance, & a Waitrose a short drive away. This and the excellent transport links make Helensburgh a great jumping off point for adventures by car, rail and sea There are lots of great places where you can cycle or walk locally, you can join one of the long distance footpaths, or drive the Clyde Sea Lochs. The two main stations give direct rail links Glasgow (approx. 45-50 mins) and Edinburgh (approx. 1 hr 45mins) to the east, and north and west to Oban and Fort William and Mallaig. Helensburgh also has a swimming pool, cinema (with live streamed concerts) and Submarine Museum, a must have is the famous Dino's ice-cream, as the parlour lies on the sea front a short distance from the flat.
