I used to run a business from the cottage. I love it with its large garden and I cannot bear to sell it, so I have decided to share it with others & it gives me a business interest with some opportunity for interaction with people, which I miss. I like to meet my guests if they like to be sociable & check that there is nothing with which I can help them. I am also respectful of the fact that some guests will prefer to be left in their peaceful seclusion.
It is about 2 miles from Welwyn village. This has several pubs and restaurants, & many buildings that are several hundred years old, including Anne Van Gogh's house, to which Vincent Van Gogh walked the 25 miles from London because he could not afford a carriage. The Mimram river runs through Welwyn and ducks can be seen from the High Street. There is a Victorian fernary in walking distance from the village. You can visit Whipsnade Zoo, Woburn Abbey, Wimpole Home Farm (National Trust), where your children can pet animals, Hatfield House, the Roman baths in Welwyn and many other places of interest. Welwyn Garden City is 3 miles away and still offers a large John Lewis store. It is an excellent example of the layout and architecture of the Garden City movement, which took place in around 1935. There are many Garden City cottages, which were originally built as council houses and are now in private occupancy because they are so attractive. The large green public areas make the Garden City very attractive and an operational fountain adorns the Parkway. The historic city of St. Albans, famously ransacked by Boudica in about 60AD, is a 20-30 minute drive away, depending on traffic.
