Our spacious comfortable home was built in the early 1970s for the local doctor. It has large rooms with high ceilings. The two guest bedrooms have ensuite shower rooms with toilets, sinks, mirrors shaving lights and extractor fans. They were originally designed as consulting rooms to add extra capacity to the original doctors surgery which is next door. The rooms have clean, simple décor and comfortable beds. In addition there is a large guest bathroom and there is a downstairs cloakroom so nobody should need to wait to use the facilities. There is also a guests lounge/dining room where guests can mingle, watch television or make themselves a hot drink. The house is set in a large garden with ample parking. Most of the time it is very quiet, with several guests having remarked on having a great night's undisturbed rest. The tranquillity is occasionally broken when the local church lets the bell ringers loose for a session of cacophony, but this rarely goes on for more than an hour.
Your hosts are Jane and Martin. We have been running holiday lets for a couple of years and have recently given over part of our family home as a bed and breakfast business. We enjoy meeting people from different parts of the country, and are keen to share information with our visitors about places to go to eat or have a drink. We have lived in Knighton for nearly 4 years and built up a good working knowledge of the local area. We are always available to call if our guests need a rescue while out and about. We own 4 dogs which are kept in a separate area, out of bounds to our guests. They will bark if they hear strangers, and will provide a full barbershop quartet if the postman rings the doorbell, but apart from that the place is generally very quiet.
The vicinity offers excellent opportunities to explore the local hills and valleys, and Knighton is on the junction of Glydwr's Way, the Offa's Dyke path and the Heart of Wales Railway walking path. The Garden House is about 200 metres from Knighton town centre, with its many bars and restaurants, as well as several takeaway food outlets and cafes. There is a launderette about 100 metres away. The railway station is about 300 metres away with trains to Shrewsbury and Swansea. There are regular bus services to Kington, Ludlow and Llandrindod Wells. We absolutely love it living here, with a gentle and tranquil pace of life, but there are enough facilities to not make you feel totally isolated from civilisation. Knighton is a great base for exploring lots of Mid Wales and beyond. The Brecon Beacons are about 1 hour to the South, the West coast is approximately 90 minutes away and Bala and Snowdonia are just over an hour's drive to the North. We are close to the Shropshire Hills AONB to the East.
