Information about the host

“The Hayloft” is a Victorian addition to a 17th Century Grade II listed house. It is a large room with a super-king size bed, which can be two singles, a comfy L-shaped sofa, and a large TV with Freeview and a DVD player (we have lots of DVDs). A mattress on the floor can be provided to accommodate a third person. A microwave, toaster, small fridge and kettle are provided, however, the room does not contain a sink, so eco-friendly paper plates and wooden cutlery are provided. There is a lovely private shower room for your use next to the room. The room is accessed by a private outside staircase close to the driveway. It is a steep, open staircase so we are afraid that the room is not suitable for very small children or people with a physical disability.

The owner will be in the rest of the house most of the time or, if away, will be contactable throughout your stay.

Cottesmore is a lovely village which boasts a fish and chip shop, village store with post office, and a pub, the Sun Inn, is just across the road and is open every day except Mondays. The village is about 8 minutes’ drive from the historic town of Oakham where you can find several restaurants, coffee shops, pubs and gift shops. Stamford, a beautiful, ancient town, is 20 minutes’ drive away where a visit to Burghley House is a must. For the outdoor types, beautiful Rutland Water is a 10 minute drive away where you can walk, cycle, sail or windsail. Swimming is allowed in a particular area in the summer months. The Exton Estate is close by which is a good place to walk dogs without a lead. Uppingham, Rockingham Castle and Eyebrook Reservoir are also nearby and well worth a visit. There is a bus which leaves from just outside the house which goes to Oakham and Melton Mowbray but, as it only appears every 2 hours, a car is advised to get around the area.
