The Hide has the most amazing views down Strangford lough and its open skies making each part of the day and year different. The house is on a hill so benefits form looking over the road to the shore and the changing tides. It is a special place and very relaxing. We bought the property recently and fully refurbished it with the aim of keeping its character but adding modern facilities and decided we should share the place with others. So far all the guests have loved their stay and one offered to buy it.
My name is Ruby and with husband Norman have refurbished the Hide and I look after the guests. I really enjoy meeting guests and telling them about the house and places to visit. I grew up not far from the Hide and the daily bus journey to school in Newtownards left the beautiful Strangford lough imprinted on my mind with its varied scenery and sea. So now its my delight to visit 156 The Hide and enjoy the view from inside the house or down the garden.
The Hide is located in a private garden at the end of a private road, so is away from a main road. Newtownards is 3 miles from the Hide and has a huge selection of shops including a Tesco that seems to be open all hours. Local restaurants to check out are Katch 27 in Kirkcubbin, the Quays in Portavogie, Harrisons with its amazing lough views on the hills between Greyabbey and Kirkcubbin, Wildfowler and other lunch spots in Greyabbey to recover from the antique shops. The Irish sea side of the peninsula has sandy beaches that are great for walks all year round and the local villages all have great play parks. National Trust properties are Mount Stewart with amazing gardens and a recently refurbished house, just one mile from the Hide. Castle Ward hosted the Game of Thrones in early series and has an incredible location close to Strangford. Strangford Lough is noted for its migrating birds and Castle Espie Wild Fowl centre to let you and children get up close to them. ( a few miles from Comber ) Lots to see and discover in the area but if you need a trio to Belfast and the big city its about a half hour drive.
