The town was the birthplace of William Wordsworth and his family home is a popular attraction, owned by the National Trust. Cockermouth offers shops, pubs and places to eat, but the main attraction is the scenery and walking at the northern lakes, Bassenthwaite Lake, Ennerdale Water and Derwent Water.
