Quirky and romantic; Practical and peaceful; our two Hideaway Huts (The Bothy and The Shieling) are luxury escapes designed just for 2 in the heart of Northumberland. They stand in a private wildflower meadow, with stunning views along the lovely South Tyne Valley by day and the glorious back-cloth Northumberland's Dark Skies by night. Each Hut has an open-plan living area with comfortable seating, well-equipped kitchenette and small dining table; electric wood-burning effect stove and Smart TV. The kingsize zip'n'link beds topped with pure wool duvets and pillows and crisp, white sheets can be separated into twin singles if preferred - please let us know before arrival. Bathrooms have over-bath showers as well as washbasin and WC, and are also home to the washing machine! Further secure storage facilities for your bicycles, walking gear etc and a drying room / utility area will also be available at the site from Easter 2018
The Bothy and The Shieling are recent additions to Stanegate Hideaways self-catering accommodation, which we have been running for almost 9 years...I love the business and I love cooking, so guests can look forward to a welcome including home-baking as well as local produce and our own free-range eggs to help with their self-catering! We live just a few minutes' along the valley, so we are on-hand if you need us.
Just 3 miles from the most spectacular stretches of Hadrian's Wall, The Hideaway Huts are literally "just down the road" from Roman Vindolanda and The Sill Landscape Discovery Centre. With the whole of The Northumberland National Park and Dark Skies Park to the North, the North Pennines Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty to the South, easy access to the vibrant city of Newcastle 30 miles to the East and the Lake District to the West there is always somewhere to go...if you can tear yourselves away! Transport links along the Valley are good, with regular bus and train services between Carlisle and Newcastle, the nearest railway station being in Bardon Mill village. For keen cyclists, you are just off the Coast to Coast route...an excellent place to break your journey and explore the area!
