Jamie and I look forward to welcoming you to our home. Jamie is a farmer and an author, I clear up after him! I also look after our guests and enjoy photography, gardening and exploring. We love living living here and are passionate about the wildlife that surrounds us - red squirrels, otters, porpoises and countless birds - incredible skeins of Barnacle geese through the winter and various waders throughout the year. We try and farm in as ecologically friendly way as possible and consider it important to source food locally for your breakfast. We feel it is a privilege to live here and would love to share it with you.
This is our home, and we welcome you to come and experience this magical place for yourselves. It has been used as a film set for various films the latest being 'The Wife' starring Glen Close, Jonathan Price and Max Irons where it was meant to represent their beach home in Connecticut. We offer bed and breakfast accommodation in our extremely comfortable rooms all with their own bathrooms and glorious sea views. Breakfast will be good! The fire in the dinning room where breakfast is served will be roaring if the sun is not shining! The House on the Shore has a unique charm and the most spectacular position, sitting in its own bay looking across the Solway Firth to the mountains of the Lake District beyond. There is lots to see and explore nearby, a very good pub serving delicious meals a mile away (or a 45 minute walk along the beach), fabulous walks, lots of birdlife and interesting places to explore nearby in this glorious part of Galloway in South West Scotland. We think it is a very special place and would love to share it with you.
There is masses to do in this little known bit of South West Scotland. Dumfries and Galloway has so much to offer - quaint villages to explore - New Abbey with the romantic ruins of Sweet Heart Abbey, Castle Douglas - the local food town with lots of independent shops to wander round, Mountain Biking with 2 of the Seven Stanes within 10 miles of us, beach walks along the coast and lovely gardens to visit especially in the Spring when the Azaleas and Rhododendrons are out (Portrack - The Garden of Cosmic Speculation, Threave and Broughton House to name but a few). Because of the Gulf Stream we have our own enviable micro climate - warmer and dryer then a few miles inland which has created a gardeners paradise. It is an area that attracts and inspires artists of all kinds and Kirkcudbright is the artist's town. Spring Fling during the May Bank holiday is a real treat with artists across the county opening their doors to visitors. Whatever your interests are, I am sure you will find something to enjoy.
