"The Loft" is a lovely light room in a barn conversion with beams and a vaulted ceiling. Set in the middle of a farm, the double aspect room looks out to Scafell, the Cumbrian mountains and fields in one direction and up the fell from the other. Accommodation consists of a double room up a half flight of steps, from the lounge, and a private bathroom below. Breakfast is included and served in the oak framed conservatory with stunning views of Scafell, Bowfell and Crinkle Craggs. We are happy for you to bring a friendly/sociable dog with you. If you want to bring two small or medium sized (our maximum), please contact us before booking. Being about a mile from the fell road, Woodend is very quiet. Access from the fell road is along a gated tarmacked single track lane. The road ends at the farm about 200 yards further down the road so there is no passing traffic other than the farmer who on occasions will pass on his tractor. At night there is no light pollution so the stars seem very bright on a clear night. Situated in the middle of a Cumbrian fell top farm, we are surrounded by animals and being so high up, quite often a cloud will pass us by giving rise to some unique sights
We work at home in this magnificent location with our collection of quirky individual cottages to look after. Having fond memories of our holidays, the places visited and in many cases the years that we took them, making memorable holidays for our guests is our main goal. We spend most of our time at Woodend with our dog "Gracie" and we keep chickens, some of the year a few pigs, grow our own vegetables and enjoy cooking, home brewing and wine making. Other than that we enjoy live music and organise our regular local live music event, "Music in Ulpha". Check out the Music in Ulpha website, you might be able to match your stay to when we have a gig, many people do! When we do make time to get away, we like to travel abroad or explore the UK in our motorhome, especially visiting folk festivals. We would love to welcome you to Woodend to share the stunning views of England's highest mountains, including Scafell Pike, and the peace and tranquility of this "off the beaten track" location.
Woodend is set in a remote but accessible location. We are 1000' up on a fell with great views in all directions, particularly of Scafell, Crinkle Craggs and Bowfell. Devoke Water is only a ten minute walk away. The Eskdale and Duddon Valleys are only 3 miles either side of us with a variety of pubs (all dog friendly), and beautiful walks as well as numerous things to do and general sightseeing.
