The Mansion sits on the edge and a little above Whitehaven giving it great views North over the town and across the Solway Firth to Scotland and East across to the Western Fells of the Lake District. Our aim is for guests to feel at home, so our approach is friendly and relaxed. We offer use of the house kitchen which is a big plus for many guests who want to travel on a budget or for families with young children and in summer we have a large garden with picnic benches to enjoy the views. Our biggest asset is our pool, it's free to use for hotel guests, access times vary and are available on request. We are also dog friendly, dogs are the only pets we can allow though.
We (Ian and Nav) have been at The Mansion since late 2015, we both came from customer service rolls so we are well practised in customer services. There is nothing better than getting to know guests over breakfast, we always have breakfast with who ever is left in the dining room after service. We have a great knowledge of the local area, tourist attractions, walks, restaurants, pubs and interesting places to visit and we are only to happy to give advice and suggestions if required.
Whitehaven is an historic town, it's been around since the early 1600's at least. There is a museum and other historical attractions in the town that go into it's rich sea fairing history. Once a port famous for trade with the Americas, coal industry, fishing and ship building it was as busy as Liverpool and Southampton. The port is now a marina full of pleasure craft, and was the scene for the demise of Coronation Streets Pat Phelan. St Bees is our nearest beach and there is a great walk along the coastal path, with a short train ride home. Ennerdale, Wast Water and Loweswater are within easy striking distance as is Muncaster Castle, Ravenglass and Scafell Pike, all worth a visit.
