The Nicolson house is situated in the small village of Lemreway in the South of Lewis, at the head of Loch Shell. It is a traditional family home. Lemreway is considered by many to be one of the most beautiful villages on the island. From the village there are wonderful views of the Shiant Islands and on a clear day views of Skye and the mainland. It is almost equidistant from the North end of Lewis and the Southern end of Harris, making it a perfect base to explore with hillwalking, trout and sea fishing and birdwatching are among the pursuits that can be followed here.
Having graduated from Glasgow School of Art, Drawing and Painting (as it was then), I studied for two years in Paris at the Ecole des Beaux Arts. I won the International Competition Prize at Port Aven. I came back to Glasgow and was supported by the Scottish Arts Council. I took part in numerous domestic and international exhibitions. My painting and print work is in a number of international and private collections. I have been supported financially by the British Council, and the Gulbenkian Foundation. In February 2010 I was awarded Accreditation by the Institute of Conservation as a professional conservator / restorer. I enjoy the medium of stained glass - the size and scale of stained glass work seems to suit my image making. It is almost traditional in European Fine Art for painters to involve themselves with stained glass.

There are dozens of brown trout lochs in the vicinity, most of which can be fished free of charge. Where necessary, permits can be purchased locally. The beautiful landscapes in Lewis and Harris also make it ideal for painting holidays. There are wonderful almost deserted beaches in Lewis and Harris. Kittiwakes, shaq, gannet, fulmars, oyster catchers and curlews are some of the seabirds found here and on land merlins, buzzards, golden and sea eagles and corncrakes. On land there are red deer, mink, seals and otters. Many wild flowers grow here, including wild orchids.
