The Nook is a lovely newly refurbished two bedroomed Regency period mid terrace town house which is at least 170 years old. The Nook can accommodate up to 4 adults or children in 1 x double bed and 2 single beds. A cot can be provided for a baby or toddler. The Nook has on-street parking and rear driveway and located in the heart of Bishop Auckland, next to a local park entrance, a short walk to the historic market Square area, Bishops Palace, Newton Gap Viaduct and spectacular Kynren and Eleven Arches showground. Just off the A1 it is a fab base from which to explore all North Yorkshire, County Durham and Northumberland have to offer including the beautiful East Coast only half an hour away. Guidebooks provided. The Nook is a short walk or taxi from the railway station.. Pets (max 2 dogs) are welcome. There is outdoor seating and shed to tuck skateboards, cycles or hiking boots. We hope you enjoy the antique and contemporary artefacts and artwork, with a homage to Lord Nelson thrown in. We aim to provide you a home from home and so have a compact but fully equipped kitchen with oven, hob, microwave and slow cooker for the days you want to come home to a warming stew.
Originally from Surrey, we love visiting the North East of England. It's friendly people and stunning historic scenery have amazed us. We want to share this wonderful part of Britain with everyone. Every time we come we revisit favourite spots and discover somewhere new. There is just so much to see and do. We are delighted to be partnered with Visit Durham. We have recently completely renovated The Nook but aimed to keep the heritage character of The Nook while providing modern comforts. The ground floor flooring was chosen being the most practical and safe for dogs paws. We really hope you will enjoy your stay as much as we do. We want you to be as safe as possible. We have taken a number of steps to protect you. Our site management team, Diane and Neil are based in nearby Shildon. They are sticking to safe working practices for the foreseeable future for everyone's protection.
We hope you will enjoy a home from home experience. The Nook is in a friendly bustling neighbourhood and next to a lovely park. We suspect you won't be indoors for long. There is just so much to see and do in reach of The Nook. The stunning landscapes and heritage offer fab days out. The Bishops Palace in Bishop Auckland has undergone a multi million pound refurbishment, the, High Force waterfall is a lovely walk with nearby hotel bar and restaurant. The Bowes museum, Barnard Castle hosts a Tate Gallery history of fashion exhibition, tea-room & shop. Durham City, Hartlepool Naval museum with our nations oldest floating ship The Trimaloree and marina, Hadrians Wall and Beamish are all favourites. If you come at the weekend in the summer the Kynren spectacle Saturday night is a must-see. Beaches and local swimming pools are available too. A cinema and Escape Room are in Durham as well as the stunning cathedral and castle. Railway enthusiasts can visit Shildon, or, take a ride on the North Yorkshire Moors Railway between Whitby and Pickering.
