Information about the host

The Nook is a cosy self contained newly fitted out apartment that one of our guests described as "a mini house". The stand out feature though is the stunning panoramic view of the Severn Estuary across to Wales that can be seen from all the rooms. The kitchen is fully equipped with a full size fan oven and ceramic hob with fume extraction, a kettle, toaster, microwave oven, sink and ample work work surfaces. The lounge area has two comfortable club chairs for relaxing and watching TV. There is also a table and two chairs for dining/desk. The ground floor bathroom has modern fittings and a powerful shower. Upstairs the bedroom has a King Size bed that is always being described by our guests as extremely comfortable. Side tables with adjacent power sockets, dressing table and stool, wardrobe and luggage storage cupboard. Good Wifi signal in all areas. We also have outside seating and lower terraced garden that our guests are welcome to use.

We previously ran a bed and breakfast business nearby for 16 years. Developing The Nook has given us a better work life balance that enables us to spend more time doing more of the things we enjoy. Bev is an accomplished amateur artist and keeps fit with a regular walking group and well as going to the gym. I run, cycle and sail a dinghy at Portishead Yacht and Sailing Club which is only 10 minute walk away. Having said all this we do spend time washing, ironing, cleaning and maintaining The Nook so it is always presented in the best possible way.

The Nook is situated in the very quiet residential neighbourhood of Redcliff Bay, surrounded by mostly large detached houses. We are in an elevated position which gives panoramic coastal views over the Severn Estuary to the coast of South wales in the west and the hills beyond. The sunsets have been described as among the best in the UK. Redcliff Bay is two miles from the centre of Portishead. This National Trust coastline is accessible within 50 metres of our house. Turn left and the coast path will take you to Clevedon (4 miles) or go right and on past the sailing club to the Windmill Pub (1 mile) and on to Portishead which is another mile.
