Nikki & Jason bought Blaen Nant Gwyn, a 200+ year old Welsh Long House, in May 2009 to realise their dream of setting up a holiday cottage business in the stunning Carmarthenshire countryside. Having spent many years as professional singers they both felt it was time to hang up their microphones and pull on their wellies. Whilst searching for the right property they featured on the BBC programme Escape to the Country so you may recognise them if you favour the series. Blaen Nant Gwyn was the perfect house in the perfect location and came complete with a large barn suitable for conversion into two holiday units. Just one year on the first, Bay Tree Barn, was complete and has been extremely busy since opening. A new business venture MudTrek Mountain Bike Breaks was also born – fully catered MTB week-ends and holidays with Nikki providing home-made meals and Jason, a fully qualified MIAS Mountain Bike Guide, providing the guiding. By July 2011 The Hay Barn was finished any in 2014 a new addition, The Old Bike Shed was completed. Jason is a keen mountain biker and Nikki, an accomplished cook. The family is completed by “the hounds” Woody, Cookie & Oscar - 3 naughty beagles.
At the edge of the Brechfa Forest and at 1000 feet, we boast unrivalled views of Carmarthenshire, Pembrokeshire and Ceredigion and are perfectly placed to explore the delights of these 3 counties. We have 18,000 acres of stunning forest walks on our doorstep and are near beautiful beaches on 2 different coastlines. Secluded without being isolated we feel we have the perfect spot - the best of both worlds. And it's so quiet here. It's a surprise to bump into anyone whilst walking in the forest and the beaches are pretty empty all year round. We do, however, have some fabulous eateries in the area and wonderful attractions, castles, market towns etc to explore. It's a very dog-friendly county which, of course, is what we're all about. Our enviable location is also close to the world renowned Brechfa Trails which offers excellent riding for novices to the most experienced. However we specialise in “off piste” guiding - a chance to ride somewhere you would never normally be able to ride - in the capable hands of a fully qualified guide. Guiding days are built specifically around each exclusive individual or group. Adult bike hire available on site. Bookings in advance.
